What is NEMA all about?
The NEW ENGLAND MOTOCROSS ASSOCIATION (NEMA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of the sport of motocross racing for young riders. For adult riders to acquire membership they must be the parents or legal guardian of a child that is actively racing with NEMA.
NEMA is an organization of volunteer workers. We do not have any paid promoters or officials. The NEMA "workforce", including the board of directors and the track officials, are all NEMA parents who have decided to play an active role in promoting the sport in which their son or daughter participates.

While there are many outstanding motocross racing organizations throughout the New England/New York area, NEMA is the only area-wide organization that is devoted to school age riders.
AT NEMA RACES THE COMPETITION IS TOUGH ! Many riders who began their racing "careers" at NEMA go on to be top national riders, and NEMA riders always do well at events sponsored by other organizations throughout the United States.
AT NEMA THE COMPETITION IS FAIR ! The NEMA system of classifying riders by age, bike size, and racing experience gives every competitor an opportunity to become a champion in his/her class before moving on to an even greater challenge in a more advanced class.
NEMA is very definitely a family oriented organization. All riders must have a parent or guardian present on the premises at all times in order to compete in racing events. Most "race teams" at NEMA consist of the rider, his/her mom & dad and brothers & sisters. In a larger sense, NEMA itself is one big family and many lifelong friendships (for parents as well as youngsters) have had their beginnings here.

What is a typical race day like ?
TYPICAL SCHEDULE
6:00-7:30 A.M. SIGN-UP
8:00 A.M. RIDERS MEETING
8:30 A.M. PRACTICE (schedule varies)
10:00 A.M. RACE IN ACCORDANCE WITH SCHEDULE (varies)
Normally, the race day will consist of two motos per class, with the order determined by the posted schedule. The entire schedule is run through twice, and each rider is scored on his/her finish in each of the two moto's for each class he/she is entered for. The two moto scores are combined and the total score will determine the rider's overall. The rider with the least amount of points would be considered the overall winner. These points only determine the overall and do not count towards any Series, Promotional or Championship points. In the event of a tie in points, the rider with the better finish in the second moto would break the tie and would the better finish in the overall standings.

Per Moto Points Breakdown
1st Place = 1 Points, 2nd Place = 2 Points, 3rd Place = 3 Points, 4th Place = 4 Points 5th Place = 5 Points, 6th Place = 6 Points, and so on to the last place finish.

In the event that there are more people in a class than will fit at the gate, qualifying motos may be conducted to determine who will race in the final. When Qualifiers are used, the class will be divided in half, and the top finishers in each qualifier moto (typically top 15) will advance to the final race. Riders who do not qualify in the regular motos will ride in a last chance qualifier (LCQ), and the top finishers (typically 9-11) will be added to the final race list to fill in the gate. Points for the day will be assigned only for the final race. Points are not earned for qualifying motos.
Note: This is general guidance, and may change at the discretion of the head referee.
